you needed every bit of that 429 to get that car moving,those were very large and heavy, I had a '56 Chevy w/a Small Block that ate those things for breakfast… but that same engine in a Mustang/Mach1 was a World Beater.

Your first mistake was in buniyg a Ford. They are not reliable. Their truck line is much better than their car line. Escorts are notorious for problems. Anyway, when temperatures are that cold, it could be that the cables are frozen. It is a true American muscle car, but sadly, those are rare nowadays. Back in those days, it is fashionable to have the windshield replaced with an even thicker one like them bullet proof plates. Attribute it to the related gang violence of seeing a muscle car.
