I don’t think so, generally, but there diitnfeely is a faction of nurses who believe that the minimum preparation required for an RN should be a bachelor’s degree. Employers prefer BSN grads in many settings, but with the current nursing shortage only expected to get worse, I don’t see how any employer is going to be able to hold out and only hire BSN grads.In the workplace, it’s not like I go around asking my coworkers what level of education they have. We’re all RNs. We all have our strengths and weaknesses in our practice regardless of our education level. I have seen many BSN nurses who don’t use the extra knowledge they gained and are simply not good nurses, while there are many ADN nurses who are far more efficient and knowledgable and better critical thinkers than some of the BSN RNs. Sure, having the extra education should in theory make you a better nurse, but that’s not always how it works as I have seen firsthand on many occassions.I personally don’t judge nurses and their competence based on their education. I base my judgements on how they practice.
