i agree the GSX-R 600 is a much better looking bike

yeah but I think Dave's point is "it's a good starter bike" (first time owners). For new riders, the torque of the 650 helps with inexperienced shifting and it's slower with out the forward stance of GSXR 600.

I guess I'm biased because the GSXR was my first (starter) bike. Just the right amount of everything for what I was looking for.

there's a reason both the GSXR and the SV 650s are compared to each other (side note- Patrick of theChive's starter bike was the SV 650s)

This bike explodes without warning – dont ask for warranty, that's for others.

For starter bikes its good, along with the Kawasaki 650r/ER-6's. Perhaps the honda 250r or Ninja 250 would be better for some to start on, but I dare say, anyone who says a Gixxer or similar is the best is one of those SQUID types that ends up increasing everyone's insurance rates.
