In order to outrun the cops when loaded with a full batch of freshly brewed moonshine it helped to have a powerful engine in a small car. Enter the orignal Nascar racers. Moonshiners used to get together to show off how fast their cars were on dirt tracks only for their own amusement. Cut to 50 years later, and you see where Nascar came from. Now, pass the hooch!

The movie 'Thunder Road', starring Robert Mitchum, is a great movie about moonshiners. Well worth checking out if you like cars and booze.
Well, if NASCAR were true to its proudly proclaimed "roots", they'd actually turn right as well. I'm sure moonshiners would've been more partial to road racing…you know, REAL WORLD racing. Oval racing is crap.
