The line up for Top Gear USA: Adam Ferrara, Rutledge Wood and Tanner Foust. Let's begin with Adam Ferrara. He's kind of a hybrid comedy man/face-man. He is a star. He's on the FX show "Rescue Me" (eye-pleasing for girls) and a solid comedian that has made the rounds from Leno, Letterman, The View and even Rachel Ray. Simply put, you want to watch the show with out with your wife or girlfriend, Ferrara will charm the socks off them. Then we have Rutledge Wood, the "details" guy. Wood grew up with a father who ran a business buying, restoring, and selling new and old cars. He starred in SPEED Channel's show NASCAR Smarts and worked as a reporter for NASCAR RaceDay, Trackside Live, and NASCAR Live. He has the NASCAR crowd and also knowledge of trivial facts for the "stoner crowd." This leaves us with Tanner Foust. There may not be a Stig like character in "Top Gear USA" and as such, you really will need a professional driver, which Foust is. He's mostly known for his ability to drift around a track but he's an all around racing professional. If you have never seen SPEED channel's show SuperCars Exposed, please find it on the 'nets. It's good. He can really drive and, more importantly, he brings a solid up-beat enthusiasm to testing exotic cars. The last part of the equation, to me, is the most interesting aspect of the show. The UK version will test a Ferrari and rip it apart. However, Foust can drive the cars to there limit while pointing out what make's the car great. So here we go. I hope and think that the two (Top Gear USA and UK) can co-exist. My high-brow side will always love the UK version but I think the simpler, fun respect for high-end cars in the US version will be a good thing. So sit back and enjoy the new Top Gear USA this Sunday. Side note, good for you History Channel for whipping it out and taking on this huge gamble.
